Ubuntu to you too! Verdict…good to go.

ianagain So, I decided to quit pirating operating systems and installed Ubuntu on a slightly more modern laptop. It rocks. Hands down. It found all the funky parts of the hardware, including a slightly non-standard Cisco WiFi card. No problems at all. Now I am in the middle of finding fun games and stuff to fiddle with.
I am not going to join in with the fanatics, yet I think that this will give the folks in Redmond, and Cupertino, something to look out for.

I've made a Ubuntu research computer for school and it was such a smooth install. I even got the VPN client working relatively painlessly. Over the summer Imma gonna try to convert all my computers over to Ubuntu, we'll see!
I use Ubuntu (w/ samba) for an in-home file server. Works great. Good to see a company like Dell offering the OS installed straight from the factory.
One of the digs at Linux used to be its perceived lack of driver support, and while the latest hardware might not be supported, you generally just have to check back in a few weeks. I've read this somewhere and I believe it, Linux supports more hardware than any OS now. Install on any machine post 2001, and it's generally plug and play.
